Sublime Text Installation on Ubuntu 18.04
There are several option to install Sublime Text : via Ubuntu console or command line option with repository. In this article we are going to install Sublime Text via command line from Sublime repository. The installation process will be divided up to several steps :
Before installing Sublime in our Ubuntu Bionic (18.04), we have to prepare the environment first. It requires a user with sudo privileges, sufficient space and the last update of Ubuntu repository. Also internet connection must be online for downloading original software from its sources. The required space for Sublime Text software is about 34.8 MB.
Downloading Sublime source file from Sublime Text repository by downloading GPG key, by submitting command :
ramans@ubuntu:~$ wget -qO - https://download.sublimetext.com/sublimehq-pub.gpg | sudo apt-key add - [sudo] password for ramans: OK
There are two Sublime text version option we could chose, namley : stable version and Dev version. We chose the stable version as our source.
ramans@ubuntu:~$ echo "deb https://download.sublimetext.com/ apt/stable/" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/sublime-text.list deb https://download.sublimetext.com/ apt/stable/
After the repository has been downloaded and cofigured, the next step is installing Sublime Text.
sudo apt-get updateramans@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt install sublime-text
The Sublime Text 3 installation was completed done. To run the Sublime Text, just go to the software manager and find the Sublime Text Application. By clicking its icon, the application will be running.
