Introduction

VLC Installation on Debian 11

We will install VLC media player on Debian 11 using Debian repository, so we have to update our Debian 11 system to the latest version. The installation steps will be as follow :

  2. Install VLC Media Player
  3. Launching VLC Media Player

Update Debian 11 System

By updating Debian 11 system, it will refresh the local list of available packages software to the newer stable version. To update Debian 11 repositories, we will use the command line.

Install VLC Media Player on Debian 11

After system updating was completed done, then we will install VLC media player by submitting command line :

$ sudo apt install vlc

After the installation was completed done, then we will verify it by querying its version. To perform this task, we will submit the command line :

Launching VLC Media Player

The VLC media player has been installed on our Debian 11 system and ready to be launched. We will launch VLC media player by using App Menu, as shown below :

When we run it for the first time, a notification will appear to allow metadata network access. Then we check the box and press ‘Continue’ button to continue to VLC media player main menu.

We also can use VLC to play media in any format that is supported from various sources, be it from a local computer or outside the system. In this example it will be shown to play a video from a web (file-examples-com.github.io, a media example source provider) using the command line:
