How To Install Thunderbird Email Client on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

On this article we will discuss how to install Thunderbird mail client on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Introduction

There are lots of email clients available on the market. As users, of course we will get many benefit from the many choices of these email client applications. Microsoft Windows users must be familiar with Microsoft Outlook, because it has become the default Windows for their email client. For non-Windows users, of course, we will have an options than Microsoft Outlook. There are several email clients available besides Microsoft Outlook, namely: Mozilla Thunderbird, Zimbra, Claws Mail, Sylpheed and MailSpring. On this article we will discuss how to install Thunderbird email client on Ubuntu 20.04 desktop.



Mozilla Thunderbird Installation On Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

On this tutorial, we will install Mozilla Thunderbird by using command line rather than Ubuntu Application Manager GUI interface. There are several step as follow :

  1. Add ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa Repository
  2. Update system package
  3. Install Thunderbird
  4. Configure Thunderbird Email Client

1. Add ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa Repository

On this section, we will add Mozilla repository, by submitting command line : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa.

2. Update Package System Ubuntu

On this section we havet to update our package system, to take effect of the newest repository which was added. We just submit the command line : sudo apt-get update.

3. Install Thunderbird Client Email

Then we just install the software by submitting command line : sudo apt-get install thunderbird.

4. Configuring Thundebird

After installation was completed done, the nex step is to configure the account whom using this application. There are two option to call the Thunderbird application : using Application manager and command line.

Running Thunderbird from GUI :

Find Thunderbir from the GUI console then double clik the button, as shown below.

Running Thunderbird using Command line :

Call Thunderbird by submitting command line : thunderbird as shown below .

For the first time, we have to configure our email properties. We will be promted about Name, email address account and password.

Then we will be asked about our email server : 1. Protocol that we use, Incomeing and outgoing mail server. After all are set and OK, then we will have the main menu as shown below.

So far, the Mozilla Thunderbird mail client installation has been completed.
