In the real world environment, there are two types of Java impelementation : Open JDK and Oracle Java. OpenJDK (Open Java Development Kit) is a free and open-source implementation of the Java Platform, where the Oracle Java is almost quite the same, except Oracle Java has an additional commercial features.
OpenJDK Installation On Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
The version of OpenJDK while this article is being written is OpenJDK 11. We will be briefly discussing how to install OpenJDK on Ubuntu on severeal steps as explained below.
Before we are going to install OpenJDK on Ubuntu system, there are several prerequisite to be fulfilled, namely : account with sudo privilege, sufficient disk space, good internet connection.
After the prerequisite was met, then we begin to install Java by updating system first. We will use the command line below :
ramans@otodiginet:~$ sudo apt update
After the Ubuntu system has been update, then we install the Java OpenJDK.
ramans@otodiginet:~$ sudo apt install openjdk-11-jdk
After waiting for a moment, the installation was completed done. Then we will verify the Java version by submitting command line beow :
ramans@otodiginet:~$ java --version
The output will be :
openjdk 11.0.7 2020-04-14 OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 11.0.7+10-post-Ubuntu-3ubuntu1) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.0.7+10-post-Ubuntu-3ubuntu1, mixed mode, sharing)
